Chuck Sawyer

Artist

My name is Chuck Sawyer and my passion is creating works of art on my lathe.
Using crotches, burls, root segments and other pieces with exotic grain character, I sculpt hollowed wood forms from indigenous species. Wood used in my turnings generally comes from trees damaged by storms, disease or construction activities. Letting the character of the wood guide my sculpting process, I allow my instincts to release the beauty of nature trapped within the raw materials, bringing out the beauty of woods in a manner that respects the inherent grain and natural aging processes of the wood.
