Jill Brownley is a visual artist and graphic design who has been creating abstract paintings and mixed media artwork for more than 20 years.

Brownley is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she received her degree in visual communications and illustration from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In addition, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, as well as a Master’s degree in International Business.

ABOUT HER WORK
As a former graphic designer for a worldwide pharmaceutical conglomerate, her work incorporates bold colors, bold designs, interesting shapes and layers of texture that culminates in a style somewhere between modern grunge and urban abstract. She is influenced by graffiti, found materials, mixed media and she’s driven to push herself outside of her comfort zone when exploring new artistic ideas, methods and tools. While Brownley had a long painting hiatus for roughly seven years while working in the corporate world as a communications executive, her creative output increased exponentially during the pandemic lockdown.

“I create one-of-a-kind acrylic and mixed media painting on gallery-wrapped canvas, cradled wood panels, reclaimed wood or cardboard. I feel inspired by everyday objects, urban decay, street art and graffiti. I love to create artwork with a very textured, retro or vintage vibe that sometimes includes typography. My palette knives are probably my favorite tool to add texture and interesting layers.”
